Horton place is Another beautiful National park in Sri lanka. It located in Central province, Sri lanka. Nearest City of this park is Nuwara Eliya. This park is got 3,160 hectares of land. This park is Established in 1969 (Nature reserve) and 1988 (National park). This national park is located in highest cool place in Sri Lanka. Annual temperature is 13 C but it reach and dipping every day. So many pool and waterfalls can see in this park. The Horton Place is Headwaters of Mahaweli, Kelani and Walawe rivers. The plain also feeds Agra Oya, Belihul Oya, Kiriketi Oya, Uma Oya and Bogawantalawa Oya.
The original name of Horton place is Maha Eliya Thenna (Great open plain). In British period it renamed after Sir Robert Wilmot-Horton, the British Governor od Ceylon in 1831 to 1873.
This park is includes 24 species of mammals, 87 species of birds, 9 species of reptiles and 8 species of amphibians. This park is allow Deer normally 1500 to 2000. Mammal species found in the park include Toque Macaques, Kelaart's long-clawed shrews, Rusty-spotted, Purple-faced langurs, Sri lankan Leopards, Stripe-necked Mongooses, Wild boars, Indian Muntjacs, Sri lankan Spotted Chevrotains and Gizzled giant squirrels.
